Rally excited!

Competitors gear up for KBB Tour of the Sperrins Rally

Last Sunday saw the Recce for the 'KBB Tour of the Sperrins Rally' take place.

Competitors taking part in the event got the chance to go over the stages of the rally a week before the event making their pacenotes of where and when not to cut, and when and where to close your eyes!  Its also a day for then to get together and discuss the event and meet up with their rivals.  Magherafelt Motor club would like to thank the residents along the route, the volunteers who give their time to help, and also to the competitiors for their assistance on the day.

Saturday 17th May will see some of Irelands top drivers battle it out for the '2008 KBB Tour of the Sperrin Rally Title'.  Charlie Donnelly former Dunlop Tarmac champion will be hoping to make it a hattrick by coming over the finish ramp first again this year.   Irish Tarmac Champions Eugene Donnelly & Derek McGarrity will also be up there trying to crasp the title, other battles will be between Concor McCloskey, Sean Devine, Glenn Allen & Raymond Johnston, all fighting for points for the Northen Ireland Rally Championship, While the 2 Wheel drive battle will be between Aidan Toner, Camilius Bradley & Wesley Patterson

Clerk Of Course for the event Stephen McFerran says "Best wishes to everyone coming to the Sperrins for the Rally.  Remeber to specate safely , obey the marshals and enjoy yourself.

Eariler News

Excitement is starting to build as the KBB Tour of the Sperrins Rally on 17th May 2008 draws closer.

The call for entries went out on St. Patrick’s Day and already 163 entries have been received in advance of the April 19th closing date.  With only 120 cars able to start the rally, competition is fierce and it is going to be a tough job for the Magherafelt & District Motor club, who organize the event, to narrow down the field in all the 8 classes.

Top entries received included Charlie Donnelly and Paddy Toner, last years Tour of the Sperrins winners,  Sean Devine, Glenn Allen and many competitors from England, Scotland, Wales have also applied, with the Motor Club even receiving an entry from as far away as America.

The Official Launch of the KBB Tour of the Sperrins Rally will take place at 1.30 p.m. on Sunday 4th May 2008 at Walsh's Hotel, Maghera, which acts as Rally Headquarters for the event.

The Launch will include a “Show & Shine” display, so wash and wax your wagon and bring it along to show it off.  There will be Rally cars on display, some of last years drivers will be speaking and Clerk of the Course, Steven McFerran, will be giving a run down of the event.  Everyone is welcome to join Magherafelt Motor Club in getting the KBB Tour of the Sperrins Rally of to a great start!

KBB Tour of the Sperrins Rally ready to go!

Message from the Clerk of the Course

On behalf of Magherafelt and District Motor Club I would like to welcome everyone to the KBB Doors Tour of the Sperrins Rally 2008.

We are grateful to KBB Doors based in Magherafelt who have continued their support of the event.

This year the rally takes us as far west as Sperrin Village and East to the river Bann at Kilrea. Ensuring this is a complete tour of the Sperrins.

The event boasts almost 45 stage miles of closed public road, as with the help of DRD we have again been fortunate to receive a Road Closing Order

Again this year Walsh’s Hotel Maghera provides the rally headquarters and we hope you enjoy the fine facilities on offer.

I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to the members of the Working Group who have helped me enormously in the run up to this event.

“Best wishes to everybody coming to the Sperrins for the Rally. Remember to spectate safely, obey the marshals and enjoy yourself.”

 Stephen McFerran CoC
